To kick-start the season of fall, it is only appropriate to create a playlist you can listen to when you’re sipping on your pumpkin spice latte and walking to that 8 a.m. class.
“Cardigan” – Taylor Swift
Sweaters are not for everyone. Sometimes people find comfort in throwing on an oversized cardigan and listening to Taylor Swift’s “folklore” album instead. The song follows the perspective of a girl whose boyfriend cheated on her, alluding to two other songs off of the album, “betty”and “august.” Not only does the music set the tone for an autumn day, but the story behind the song invokes just the right blend of emotions.
“Autumn Leaves” – Ed Sheeran
It has been a debate over the years of whether or not Ed Sheeran is over or underrated. No matter which end of the spectrum you stand on, there is no denial that “Autumn Leaves” is a perfect song for the season. Not only do the lyrics themselves reflect this time of year, the mellow sounds of the piano and guitar pairs nicely with the cool breeze and fallen leaves of the season.
“Wake Me Up When September Ends” – Green Day
September is the month that marks many beginnings and endings, like the start of the fall season and the ending of summer. This 2005 hit has a nostalgic and overall melancholy feel to it. The lyrics speak of time going by too fast and not being able to hold onto everything and everyone we love. Sound familiar to anyone?
“Seasons” – Greyson Chance
If you are looking for something not as mainstream this season, the song “Seasons” could be a great choice. Greyson Chance, who averages just over 2 million streams a month, sings about how life keeps moving on, just like the different seasons. As the fall semester continues to pick up, we can all “just stop for a second,” take a break from our hectic and sometimes stressful schedules, and “move forward like the seasons.”
