Participants in a march held as part of the Families for Ceasefire’s National Day of Action walk along Baltimore Avenue Nov. 12 after gathering at Clark Park, which borders St. Joe’s University City campus. Over 700 people, including many families with children, attended the event, according to the Philadelphia chapter of the Jewish Voice for Peace, which helped to organize it. Participants carried watermelon signs, which organizers explained at the start of the march is a symbol of Palestinian resistance. An open watermelon shares the same colors as the Palestinian flag, which Israel banned from 1976 to 1993.
