Feb. 13 marked St. Joe’s fourth annual Day of Dialogue, an event dedicated to engaging in crucial and constructive conversation surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion. Day of Dialogue emphasizes the significance of developing and fostering a profound sense of awareness and empathy for those whose experiences differ from our own, including class, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion and ability.
According to St. Joe’s website, “The Day of Dialogue continues to build upon conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion taking place throughout the campus community by providing practical, participatory, and action-oriented sessions. All are encouraged to attend and own their role in making our community more inclusive.”
The real question, however, is: What will participants take away from Day of Dialogue? A completed mandatory class assignment, or a true understanding of inclusivity, accountability and compassion for our community members of all backgrounds?
With over 3,100 St. Joe’s community members registered for the 2024 Day of Dialogue, its tremendous impact and ability to ignite significant discussions about inclusivity and accountability cannot be overstated.
Utilizing Day of Dialogue’s teachings to create a better community is the most vital aspect of Day of Dialogue. As a result, we urge the St. Joe’s community to go beyond a single “day” of dialogue, to transcend this day and make it a goal to live out Day of Dialogue every single day that follows.
