After posting a successful 12-2 season record, the St. Joe’s men’s club basketball team is preparing for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament April 1.
Senior guard Danny Disandro, who also coaches the team, said he has emphasized playing loose and unrestricted, and not having too many set plays.
“We do have a couple of sets to get the offense going, but for the most part, it’s usually who’s got the hot hand that day,” Disandro said.
In a competitive season, one of their toughest opponents was Villanova University. During the regular season, St. Joe’s matched up with Villanova twice, winning 89-83 Jan. 28 and losing 72-66 the same day.
Junior guard/forward Bradly Atkinson, said he is known for his ability to get his teammates involved in the game.
“I try to make sure everyone’s getting the ball,” Atkinson said. “Making sure we’re doing the right thing as a team.”
Junior guard Andrew Mckeon brings strong shooting from the perimeter and an emphasis on rebounding to the table.
“I’m a good shooter,” Mckeon said. “I think my teammates would probably say, outside of that, I try to have a little more emphasis on rebounding and just spacing the floor.”
Playoffs will take place April 1-3 and the championship games will be held April 21-23 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Disandro said the team will be looking to make a run and go all the way in Virginia.
“We think we have the ability to beat anyone,” Disandro said. “We just need to play loose on offense and play team defense.”
