Take a sip of four smoothie places near campus

Smoothies are a popular beverage because of the versatility they offer. They can consist of fruits, vegetables, milk, yogurt and many other delicious foods. Mixing and matching different ingredients can lead to unique and tasty flavor combinations. They can be chocolatey, fruity or tart, all for the purpose of satisfying those with a sweet tooth. The four places on this list offer a great variety of green, fruit, chocolate and other kinds of smoothies.

Wawa – Various Locations
Price: About $5

Wawa is a reliable option for hoagies, coffee and much more. Among the things that the chain makes well are smoothies. There are three Wawa locations within two miles of Hawk Hill, so you have several options as to which one you can go to.

If you’re craving a late night smoothie, the Wawas at 139 Belmont Ave. and 801 Conshohocken State Road are open 24 hours. There is also a Wawa at 3724-3744 Spruce St., only 0.6 miles from the University City campus, which is open 24 hours.

Wawa offers fruit smoothies you can customize to include oat milk or yogurt. In all of those options, there are 10 combinations available, including strawberry banana, blueberry pomegranate and mixed berry. You have the option of whether or not to add whipped cream. If you’re grabbing a hoagie or snack from Wawa, it is certainly worth an extra few dollars to pick up a smoothie while you are there.

According to Adam Sanin ’23, Wawa is a great option because of its cost and convenience.

“I like Wawa smoothies because they are quick and easy to get and relatively cheap in comparison to most places that upcharge for everything,” Sanin said. “The blueberry pomegranate is
my favorite.”

The Juice Pod – 903 W. Lancaster Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA
Price: $8.50-$10

The Juice Pod is a juice bar located just over four miles west of Hawk Hill campus in Bryn Mawr. It is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m on weekends. The Juice Pod offers 28 smoothies in a variety of subcategories, those being green smoothies, nut butter smoothies, fruit smoothies and superfood smoothies.

According to Jackie Moyer ’23, despite being a little bit of a drive from campus, The Juice Pod’s appealing interior, with soft beiges and grays tied together by plenty of greenery, and its variety of options make the trip worth it.

“The smoothies are super refreshing,” Moyer said. “They have the same flavors as for their bowls and other ones too.”

The Juice Press – 10 Coulter Ave., Ardmore, PA
Price: $9.99-$12.49

The Juice Press is located in Suburban Square in Ardmore, and offers a variety of different smoothies, with protein heavy options, superfood smoothies, antioxidant fruit smoothies and functional shakes.

The Juice Press is a good option for those with dietary restrictions, according to Grace Eisenberg ’23.

“It has more options than other smoothie places,” Eisenberg said. “A lot of their smoothies are non-dairy which is good for those who cannot have dairy.”

 The Juice Press is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Juice Dr. – Online delivery
Price: $9-$12

Juice Dr. originally started in the Philadelphia area, with a store located in Ardmore. In December 2022, though, the company shut their doors and moved to an online-only service, delivering to customers throughout the area.

Juice Dr.’s main offering is cold-pressed juices and juice cleanses, but the establishment offers many delicious smoothies that are seasonal.

In summer 2022, Juice Dr. offered 10 smoothie flavors including blueberry pie; Chunky Monkey, which includes banana, chocolate protein and peanut butter; and their Go Green smoothie, which includes spinach, green apple, avocado and banana.

Juice Dr. is also fully plant-based, which makes it a great spot if you’re looking for something a bit more
vegan friendly.
