As coronavirus is increasingly impacting the U.S. and pushing colleges and business online, companies are offering free access to services. This page will provide an updated list of available resources for college students.
FREE FOOD DELIVERY
With mandates for restaurants to close dine-in areas in many cities including Philadelphia, restaurants are stepping up their takeout and food delivery options. Major chains such as Chipotle and KFC are offering free delivery. Some food delivery services, such as GrubHub and UberEats are also suspending delivery fees from certain restaurants. UberEats, DoorDash, GrubHub and Postmates will have no-contact delivery options with drivers leaving the food at your doorstep.
TWO MONTHS INTERNET FROM COMCAST
Comcast, the telecommunications conglomerate headquartered in Philadelphia, is offering free internet service for two months to qualifying customers.
Effective March 16, anyone who signs up for Comcast’s “Internet Essentials” will receive two free months of internet service.
Customers will have the choice of canceling the service (at any time) or stay as a regular paying Internet Essentials customer. There is no term contract or credit check and no shipping fee for equipment.
More details about the service and qualification can be found on Comcast’s Internet Essentials page.
REDUCED AGE MINIMUM AND WAIVED FEES FOR CAR RENTAL
Enterprise is offering “College Student Travel Assistance,” to make it easier for students to get home to their families by reducing the age minimum and waiving the young renter fees for rentals through May 31, 2020. The offer is available to college students 18 – 24 years of age with an official student ID.
ADOBE CREATIVE CLOUD ACCESS
Adobe is offering free Creative Cloud tools to students through May 31.
St. Joe’s and the Office of Information Technology will be working to set-up every student with Adobe access for the next couple of months to simplify the process, rather than having to set up individual student accounts.
U-HAUL STORAGE FOR VACATED STUDENTS
U-Haul is offering 30-days of free storage for students who have to suddenly move out. Some colleges such as Harvard University and Cornell University asked students to vacate on-campus housing, leading to a frenzy to move to new housing.
St. Joe’s is encouraging all students to remain at or return to their permanent home residence as soon as possible. However, they are providing accommodations for students who are unable to do so. At this point in time, residence halls will not be completely closed and parts of campus will remain open.
WAIVED DELIVERY FEES FOR DRUGS
Walgreens and CVS pharmacies announced they are both waiving home delivery fees for prescription medicine. The free delivery comes as people across the country, specifically those at high risk for complications from COVID-19, are being urged to stay in their homes.
FLIGHT VOUCHER FROM FRONTIER AIRLINES
Frontier Airlines is offering a “Students Fly Free” promotion: purchase before March 20, 2020 and one student can fly free for every round-trip “Discount Den Fare” purchased on qualifying flights and dates.
In addition, students will receive a $59.99 voucher with a .edu email address when signing up for a new “Discount Den” membership when they book a flight.
This page will be updated with additional resources periodically.
