President Trump is a wolf in wolf’s clothing. Currently, it seems he is pulling his fetid fur over the eyes of some of my evangelical Christian brothers and sisters who support him. I urge you, wake up.
Trump is not the lesser of two evils, but he is the greater of the two. It’s by this logic I justify my claim: Trump and his cronies have bastardized the perfect, holy, all-merciful and gracious name of Christ to commit atrocities in this country.
I am a believer. I love Jesus. I boldly, unashamedly and proudly proclaim that he is my Lord and my savior. Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement is bastardizing Jesus’ name. I cannot stand that.
My claims are not unfounded. Trump called himself a Christian. When asked in a 2016 interview what his favorite Bible verse was, he said, “an eye for an eye.” This quote might have a reader under the impression that, even if Trump fails to be merciful, he stands for justice. Does he? His actions don’t align with what he trumpets, neither in his discipleship under Jesus nor in his “love” for justice.
The 47th administration’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids on undocumented people ignores several amendments in the U.S. Constitution. Trump himself has persistently flouted the rule of law, ignoring several court hearings. And, most pressing to Christians, he calls himself a follower of Jesus while championing cruelty and hatred.
I tend to lean left, and I’ve personally heard people argue Trump is immoral. So, too, is grass green. At this point, the question is not whether Trump is a bad person. It’s not necessarily a partisan issue, either. There are countless people on the left I would deem as terrible. The question is: What ramifications on Christianity’s appeal will come from the bastardization of Christ’s love?
I leave you with the words of Jesus Christ, the God of reality: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven.”
