As we barrel into the holiday season, we can’t ignore the most wholesome holiday of all: Friendsgiving. Friendsgiving has become all the rave as a time for friends to get together and share a meal and some gratitude without all the difficulties that can come with family-oriented holidays. No more grueling questions about your future or significant others, just enjoy the company of your best pals and throw on some of these tunes.

“Rivers and Roads” – The Head and the Heart

If you want to pull some heart strings, this is the song for your Friendsgiving. The main sentiment of the song describes how big life changes come with a fair share of pain, especially when it means having to separate from people you hold near and dear. The arrangement of the melody knows just when to punch you in the gut with some blunt lyrics concerning the passage of time. Warning: this song may be extra emotional for college students seeing their friends from high school. Play at your own risk.

“Vienna” – Billy Joel

Everyone should listen to this song at least once a month to be reminded that you have a whole life ahead of you that will not slip through your fingers. Slow down, you crazy child. You can’t squeeze your whole life into your youth, just enjoy each day with the friends you’ve made and the things that light a fire inside of you. Therapy is great, but listening to this song is free.

“You’re On Your Own, Kid” – Taylor Swift

You know how Taylor Swift seems to have a song for every feeling? Well she continues to unlock some more. The intro verses have a light hearted pop feel to them that explore trivial adolescent experiences, and they soon bloom into anxious notions about societal standards and obligations that we don’t sign up for but still endure. In spite of all that, we must still make the friendship bracelets and take the moment and taste it.

“Back To Autumn” – Tall Heights

This should be a song that fades into the ending of a feel good movie. The lyrics romanticizing the fall season and expressing gratitude are accompanied by a simple arrangement of chords that progressively become more uplifting. As the credits roll on your year, let this be the song you listen to with your friends and reflect on all the good you’ve experienced in 2022.

“Peaceful Easy Feeling” – The Eagles

The proof is in the pudding on this one. Friendsgiving is all about cool and calm vibes, and that’s the whole truth and nothing but the truth of this song. When you’re surrounded by the friends you have collected over the years, it’s hard not to have a peaceful, easy feeling inside.
