Whether you’re heading to class early, recovering from a long night or just craving something comforting, a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich always hits the spot. The mix of soft eggs, melted cheese and crispy bacon is simple but unbeatable.
From bagel shops to cozy cafés, several spots near St. Joe’s Hawk Hill campus serve their own versions of this classic sandwich. Here are four worth stopping by for.
Spread Bagelry
Address: 50 E. Wynnewood Road, Unit 7, Wynnewood, Pa. 19096
Price: $11
Hours: Daily from 6 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (or until sold out)
Known for its Montreal-style bagels, Spread Bagelry offers a unique twist on the traditional bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. The bagels are hand rolled, boiled in honey water and baked in a wood-fired oven, creating a slightly crisp exterior with a soft, chewy inside. Sandwiches can be customized with add-ons like avocado, tomatoes or one of the shop’s many house-made cream cheese spreads.
Gary Collyer ’28 said he keeps going back because of the quality.
“They always do a great job there,” Collyer said. “I’m loyal, I’d say. They keep their bagels nice and warm and very fresh.”
The shop is open daily until 2:30 p.m., or until they sell out of bagels, which is known to happen. Lines tend to form, but these warm, toasted bagel sandwiches are worth the wait.
Kismet Bagels

Price: $11
Hours: Daily from 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
Kismet Bagels was founded accidentally by husband and wife duo Alexandra and Jacob Cohen during the covid-19 pandemic. What began as a home baking project for friends and family evolved into a thriving business with multiple locations across the Philadelphia area.

The shop serves bagels made fresh each morning, with options like sesame, everything and poppy. Their bacon, egg and cheese sandwich features thick cut bacon, soft eggs and melted cheese. Customers can pair it with one of the shop’s house-made cream cheeses or try Kismet’s signature zhug sauce, a herby, spicy condiment that originated in Yemen, adding extra flavor to any sandwich.
The Manayunk location offers indoor seating and a quick takeout option for customers on the go. Certain bagel flavors often sell out before closing, especially on busy weekends.
Volo Coffeehouse
Address: 4360 Main St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19127

Volo Coffeehouse has been a staple in Manayunk for years and is a cozy café and popular work spot. The shop serves La Colombe coffee and offers an extensive drink menu featuring seasonal lattes and teas.
Its bacon, egg and cheese sandwich stands out from others nearby. It is served panini style with warm, soft-boiled eggs that create a rich, creamy texture. The sandwich can also be made with fresh spinach for added flavor, making it a perfect option for breakfast or brunch.

Volo offers both indoor and outdoor seating, providing plenty of space to study, work or catch up with friends. The shop is often busy on weekends but maintains a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Up-Ryes Bagel
Address: 22 N. Bryn Mawr Ave., Bryn Mawr, Pa 19010
Price: $9.75
Hours: Daily 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
Founded by brothers Jared and Price Kushner, Up-Ryes Bagel was built on a shared dream of owning a bagel shop together. After years working in bakeries and restaurants, they opened Up-Ryes in 2019 with a focus on quality and tradition. Their bagels rise for over 24 hours and are made with a special flour blend that gives each one a crispy, golden brown crust and a soft, chewy center.
Katie Entenmann ’26 said the shop reminds her of home.
“Since I’m from New York, I was really struggling to find a good bagel place around here,” Entenmann said. “I was trying a couple of different ones in the area, and Up-Ryes got suggested to me. It really met New York bagel expectations.”

Each bagel is hand rolled, boiled and baked in small batches throughout the day, ensuring every order is fresh. The bacon, egg and cheese sandwich is made with locally sourced organic eggs and perfectly crisp bacon, layered on a warm, dense bagel.
Although Up-Ryes is a little farther from campus, it’s definitely worth the trip. The shop’s focus on fresh, high quality ingredients makes every sandwich stand out.
