Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it’s been impossible to miss the Trump administration’s increased agenda of deportations backed by the increased presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
The killing of Renee Good, who was shot three times Jan. 7 by agent Jonathan Ross, has recently sparked protests across the nation. These protests mainly serve as anti-ICE enforcement rallies, where people express their disdain for these federal agents often enforcing unconstitutional powers and racial discrimination toward citizens across the United States. Protesters are also seeking justice for Good, who was unjustly killed and then poorly portrayed by the media afterward.
The responses given by the Trump administration post-killing have been appalling, as they constantly call Good (as well as protesters) domestic terrorists and claim that any harm done to citizens is essentially their own fault. Moments after the shooting, a bystander who stated he was a physician, asked to check Good’s pulse; however, a nearby agent proclaimed, “I don’t care.”
Funny enough, Trump seemingly softened his response to the murder after hearing that Good’s father was apparently a supporter of his. However, the president still stands by his agents. This rising number of Department of Homeland Security deployments has led to a corresponding rise in social media videos highlighting the way ICE agents use intimidation, violence, lies and other unlawful tactics to enforce the regime of the apparent dictatorship of Trump. As these tactics continue and rise, I believe that more and more people will rally to stand against the actions of this current government.
